**WELCOME TO OUR 2008 SHOW NEWS**
NOVEMBER 2008 The NRHA Futurity
in Oklahoma City produced several finalists and it was good to catch up with
some of our clients during the sh
ow.
Peter DeFreitas made the Intermediete Open finals on his own Quick FIx Peppy and
also on Double Run Farm's Forty Sevens Dun It. Melony Jackson made the Non Pro
and Intermediate Non Pro finals on her homebred gelding Big Rowdy Mel and Teresa
Ebersberger made the Ltd Non Pro Finals on her own Ruf Squeeze. We are now
looking forward to showing in 2009.
We had a great Carolina Fall Classic
with lots of success in different classes. Mike rode Stephanie Rouse's
mare Lil Ruf Barbie to 2nd in the Novice Open and Elizabeth Cosper's mare Lil
Ruf Ms Whiz to 2nd in the Open class. Mike then got reserve Open Futurity
Champion on David Connor's Flashy Jac Sailor with a great run and cruised Lil
Ruf Rider through a pattern to get 2nd in the Open on Sunday. Peter DeFreitas
tied for a win inthe Intermediate Open Futurity on Double Run Farm's talented
mare Hollywood San Jo. He also placed in the ABI this time on Double Run's
Horizons Diamond and Bjoern had a great ride on Victor Gilson's Coyote Secret
Spirit to win the Rookie Professional. Overall this was a great show and thanks
to all of our customers for all their help and support.
OCTOBER 2008 Teresa Ebersberger
won the Ltd Non Pro Futurity at Congress in Ohio and also made the Non Pro
Finals - well done her! Peter DeFreitas also made the Intermediate Open Finals
on his own Quick Fix Peppy. Mike was 5th with Elizabeth Cosper's Lil Ruf Whiz
Quiz in the very competitive NRHA Open class and we are now looking forward to
the Carolina Fall Classic in WIlliamston at the end of the month.
The
Great Guntini is currently competing in Europe for
Greenway
Stables bv under the guidance of Grischa Ludwig. They made the open finals at
Americana and also at the Mallorca Western Festival.
AUGUST
2008 The Dixie Reining
Horse Association held their annual futurity in Perry, Georgia and this was
again successful for Team McEntire! Mike was Reserve Champion in the Open
futurity on Greenway Stables beautiful palomino stud Don Raphael marking 147 and
5th on David Connor's appropriately named Flashy Jac Sailor.
Congratulations to
both Greenway Stables and David Connor and both horses had a great ride. Brandon
Naples was both Intermediate and Ltd Open Futurity Champion on Double Run Farm's
Hollywood San Jo. He had an outstanding ride on this big turning and stopping
mare to score a 146 1/2! Well done Brandon and congratulations to Monica Watson
of Double Run Farms. Peter DeFreitas also won money getting 6th in the
Intermediate on another Double Run Farm mare, Horizons Diamond so well done to
them.
JULY
2008 The Double Run Futurity show held at Williamston, North
Carolina, was the first futurity of the year and was a very successful show for
Mike McEntire Reining Horses. Mike was Open Futurity Champion on Jimmy Pierce's
HR Okie Whiz and Reserve Champion on Jerr
y Clayton's Dunit Wiz Jerry. Assistants
Peter
DeFreitas and Brandon Naples both won money on their own horses Quick Fix Peppy
and Crome Plated Genes as well as with Monica Watson's horses Forty Sevens Dun
It and Hollywood San Jo. Non Pro Teresa Ebersberger was Ltd Non Pro Futurity Co
Champion along with our horseshoer DJ Stox. There was a challenge between DJ
Stox and our office manager Mel Jackson who thought that they could beat each
other at the horseshow in the futurity. If Mel had won then DJ would have shod
her ho
rse for free until the futurity. However, it was not to be and DJ scored
210 1/2 at the show, beating Mel by 1/2 point. She therefore has to admit that
DJ is a pretty good trainer of his own horses and is absolutely the best there
is! However, she does intend to get her own back in the dirt bike challenge to
be held soon
JUNE 2008
Mike competed at the Carolina Classic and won the Open class on his and
Nathalie's huge stopping stallion
Lil Ruf Rider. Mike also won the Novice Horse
Open Class on
Rio Good Wrangler who has now been sold to
Italy. This was a very successful show for Mike with these two talented
stallions.
APRIL 2008 Mike and assistant Brandon went to
the NRBC show in Katy, Texas and Mike made it back to the finals on Gunners
Doll, a very nice 5 year old mare by Gunner out of Mifs Doll belonging to
Philippe and Catherine Castel of France. He had an unfortunate draw in the
finals being number 2 to go but had a good run to win over $5000 on this big
stopping little mare.
Whilst Mike was at the NRBC, the rest of the gang went to the
SERHA Spring Celcebration in Williamston, NC. Peter rode Johnny and Trudy
Brooks' Smart Little Cielo to a win in the Open and Intermediate Open class and
then showed her again to get reserve Open champion after a run off on Sunday.
Cam Hollowell showed Jim O Neil's mare
Smartys
Little Jewel to a first place in the Rookie Professional.
Victor Gilson showed his own
Coyote Secret Spirit to a very good 4th place
in the Non Pro Derby marking a 143. His wife Flo watched him for the first time
ever and was more nervous than Victor!
MARCH 2008 The
Wimpys Little Step Derby took place in Murfreesboro Tennessee and Mike showed
Wimpys Smart Doc for Jimmy Pierce. He scored a 221 in the open class to place
Top 10 and win over $2500. Mike and Peter then headed straight to Gordyville,
Illinois where Mike showed Hollywood Aces for Jimmy Pierce to a money earning
place in both the Gordyville Breeders Cup and the Open To The World Derby. Peter
DeFreitas had a very nice run on
Custom AR Jessie to mark a 217 and place in the
Intermediate Open Derby.
NRHA FUTURITY 2007 This year saw us again very well situated in Barn 6
at the futurity and we had a good show. Mike made the finals on Hilldale Farm's
Helluva Chex and only just missed the finals on Mike and Nathalie's and Greenway
Stable's Rio Good Wrangler. He went on to add just over $6000 to Helluva Chex's
earnings in the finals. This horse will be shown in 2008 in the non pro by
Jessicah Keller. Nathalie had a great show on her mare Mark Me Big who she only
got to ride just
before the show and did very well. This big stopping mare made
the Ltd Non Pro finals and then went on to get 4th in the finals earning a
little over $3200 - well done Nathalie! We had plenty of visitors at the show,
both local and international and it was great to see everyone. We are very much
looking forward to working with our clients in 2008 and showing in the Derbies
early next year.
